MEANING OF SELF-EFFICACY
Ormrod (2012) states that learners are more likely to engage in certain behaviors when they believe they are capable of executing the behaviors successfully-that is when they have high self-efficacy. (Ormrod, 2012, p. 127)
Our book states that people often times confuse self-efficacy with self-esteem or self-concept. Ormrod (2012) states that in general, one’s self-concept address the question “Who am I?”, and self-esteem address the question “How good am I as a person?” Self-efficacy on the other hand addresses the question “How well can I do such-and-such?”

IMPORTANCE OF SELF-EFFICACY
Self-efficacy is important because it is the reason behind why we push ourselves to be the best we can be. It motivates us to never give up and to always do our best. In an article that I have linked under additional information, it discusses ways that students can gain self-efficacy. The article states that there are four ways to gain self-efficacy: mastery experiences, vicarious experience, verbal persuasion, and emotional state (Kirk, 2013). Your emotional state changes so many things, especially your self-efficacy. If you are not in the right place emotional then there is a large chance of you not feeling good about yourself and your capabilities.
Usage and application of self-efficacy
Self-efficacy affects behavior and cognition, according to social cognitive theorists; people’s feelings of self-efficacy affect several aspects of their behavior (Ormrod, 2012). People use self-efficacy to determine “their choice of activities, their goals, their effort and persistence, and ultimately their learning and achievement” (Ormrod, 2012). People often times focus on activities that they are good at and make goals that are obtainable. It takes effort and persistence for one to learn things that they are good at and achieve their goals. Self-efficacy plays a huge role in this thought process.
